Old Firm Derby Celtic match programme from 2005p

Raiding my old Bedroom

My regular readers will know that I have done a few posts in recent months on some of my old bits and pieces from childhood.

Let me fill in the details.

I called to my parents house a couple of months back and they weren't in. I was about to turn on my heel, but my three boys were with me and asked if they could see my old room as they like to do sometimes, and so we popped upstairs in my parents house and had a look, and we uncovered some interesting bits and pieces.

Old photos, sticker books, mementos and old equipment, including old cameras and a wireless as they were called then, we call them radios now. I got the old equipment handed down as I thought they looked really cool back in the day.

This post is about the match and racing programs I found and today it's about this match programme from an Old Firm derby that I travelled to Glasgow for back in November 2005, almost 20 years ago!

Now back to the match program from 2005.

I'm lucky enough to have been to around five Old Firm derbies in my life. I'm definitely a fair weather Celtic supporter however as I have not been to many other matches. The old firm is one of the biggest derbies in the world and the atmosphere is always brilliant and this match was no different.

I remember the match well, although I did have to do a bit of Google searching to refresh some of those memories and got lots of info from https://thecelticstar.com/celtic-3-rangers-0-19-november-2005-easy-victory-piles-pressure-on-mc

Big John Hartson shot Gordon Stracthe's Celtic side into a 12th minute, which really set the scene for what was to come as Celtic dominated their Glasgow neighbors.

The visitors in blue were punished for some slack play with Hartson netting his 101st goal for Celtic. Alan Hutton’s poor cross-field pass was cut out by Shunsuke Nakamura, who found Maloney in space on the right. The Scotland youngster delivered a swift low cross into the centre of the penalty box and Hartson swept the ball home with ease.

Cult hero Bobo Balde then glanced in a neat header after 56 minutes doubling the hoops lead. Nakamura turned and twisted before whipping in a great cross for Balde to steer a header beyond Ronald Waterreus, who was preferred to Stefan Klos in the Rangers’ goal.

Just a few minutes after Bobo’s goal, a delivery from Stilian Petrov was met by Aidan McGeady and the youngster’s side foot finish from 10 yards crept under the outstretched hands of Waterreus.

Celtic did not hit any great heights during the match but coped easily with whatever their opponents could muster and always enjoyed a more creative edge.

Celtic ran out easy winners in the end.
