I recently started learning how to create Shorts and TikTok videos, using my free time to practice camera movements. Yesterday, I had a few minutes after lunch to take some short videos. Feeling motivated, I decided to walk around our backyard, whipped out my phone, and did a few test shots to see if they were good enough to post.
While taking videos, I also paused occasionally to snap some photos. Essentially, I’m practicing both my photography and videography skills using my phone. Since I see myself as a hobbyist, I stick to using my phone for now. I’m not sure yet if I want to pursue it more seriously, so for now, I’m just enjoying the process—exploring and capturing moments through my photos and videos.
We have a beautiful piece of nature in our backyard, which I thought would make a great subject for my video tests. The scenes I found also worked well for photography. But before sharing the photos I took, I wanted to share the short videos I stitched together into a YouTube Shorts video.

I posted the video on both YouTube and TikTok, but I actually edited it using TikTok. I feel like the app offers more useful tools. It also has an AutoCut feature that intelligently trims videos based on the template I choose, making it incredibly easy to use.
As promised, here are the photos I captured during the pauses while filming the short videos.
Exploring both photography and videography with just my phone has been a fun and creative journey. Whether or not I take it more seriously in the future, I’m enjoying the process of capturing moments and experimenting with different techniques. I’d love to hear your thoughts—do you prefer photography, videography, or a mix of both?
