Hey everyone, we recently started making hives. The traditional wood for making hives is generally pine, my landlord has a factory with lots of off cut wood so he decided to make these from meranti and if not why not? They look amazing, its a much harder wood than pine and bees clearly love it!
We put this box out about two weeks ago and took a fat chance as it is not considered 'normal' to catch swarms in winter, we did ;)
I generally enjoy checking my hives a few times a week most often take pics too.. Because this hive is elevated I was lucky enough to get some ground shots looking up managing to capture a few bees entering and exiting the hive!
A close up of the right hand side door of the hive, many times the bees chose a left or right door in which they use more regularly at times they close the other door in the case of a larger swarm they are just as busy with both entrances.
Today I processed about 15 kgs of honey which we harvested last week I shall post some pics of that coming soon.
Be sure to stay tuned for more of my epic bee-keeping adventures.
Have a magic week.
Cheer$;)
