Part 21: The Land of Angry Invoices

The days were flowing like water, but things were not moving at the same pace. Two months after my father died, most of the money we got from the United Angels was exhausted. We have seen that every job we planned was more difficult and costly than we had foreseen at the beginning. Our platform was far behind being completed; every bill that had to be paid was sitting on my chest like a giant rock, narrowing my soul. It was clear that we had to take radical measures to save money. Our problem could have been more easily overcome if only our business should be financed, but our home we used as an office was also at risk. The pressure of the foreclosures was still hanging on us like the sword of Damocles.

Three months later, it would be clear whether United Angels would invest in our platform. We'd be fine for three months, but we'd have to be prepared for the rest of the day. From a neutral point of view, I could see that our chance of getting investment was less than fifty percent.

I said in a loud voice, “Fellas, listen, I want to talk to you about something.”

“I hope it's good,” said Berkan.

“I thought about taking extraordinary precautions to be prepared for the most negative scenario about the company."

Berkan contested in advance by saying, "what more measure fellow, we are already working hard, do you want us to sell lemon in the market as an additional business?"

Deniz supported me by saying, “Stop, Berkan, let's listen before we react.”

“If we can't get the real investment we hoped for from United Angels, we should be able to manage until we find another sponsor, so we may have to make new sacrifices together.”

“Say it without going around,” said Berkan.

I said, “I'm sorry for wasting your precious time, Mr. Berkan, I'm picking it up right now.”

He replied, “Please, I am waiting.”

“As of next month, I recommend stop paying minimum wage to partners and increase our working hours. Thus, our job will be accelerated, and we would have an additional bullet for three months.”

"What are we gonna eat and drink if we don't get paid?" Berkan asked.

”We're going to eat here because our working hours are going to grow.”

"Let's save on wages,” said Deniz, " We can spend more on the company."

“We will end the orders from outside. Foods such as bread, eggs, pasta, instant soups, especially if they are prepared at home, will help us eat cheaply.”

“So, this is hopeless?"Berkan asked with a loud voice of concern.

“On the contrary, as the platform becomes flesh-and-blood, my hope is growing.”

"If the sacrifice is necessary for our company, we will, but I have conditions. If we're breaking the deal we made at the beginning, let's reconsider the partnership stakes. The three of us make the same sacrifices, but we don't have the same share,” said Berkan.

"I am the one who found the idea, developed the love algorithm, bring the team together, and take the first investment. How can we be equal in this situation? But since you want to increase your share capital, we can increase your share capital from 15% to 25%. So, we can do our job with peace of mind.”

“It's okay for me, I wouldn't say no to an extra 10% stake,” said Deniz smiling.

”It's not clear where this is going, I have to ask Seçil," said Berkan.

I didn't know if I should be surprised or angry: “What does it have to do with Seçil, the work and life is yours, are you henpecked, brother?”

“I'll consult with Seçil and let you know my answer. Am I getting mad at you? We're going to work 15 hours a day and eat pasta. Look, Deniz didn't say a word, because she's an angel, so appreciate your partners. We can't work overtime constantly. Sunday must be a vacation. Besides, I can't do overtime every night. I've written a whole platform on my own in three months. You better learn to thank."

“It's okay not to work on Sunday; we work half a day on Saturday, we don't do overtime on every weekday, but the stock rates are not open to negotiations, Mr. Berkan. You have to tell Seçil that I had a hard talk with Samet. He offered to increase my stake from 15% to 20%. I got my coat, got up, and started walking to the door. When Samet saw that it was determined, he turned me from the way saying, ‘Come on Berkan.’ He offered to raise the stake in the company to 25%. I agree, but I said I have conditions. I said I'd miss my love, Seçil. He said we all have to make sacrifices to be successful in our business. I said, I can sacrifice anything, but Seçil. When he saw I was very determined, and I was not going to compromise in any way, he said, "Okay, brother, no matter how you say it." Of course, where would he find the guy who will code like me, the platform rose on my shoulders. I'm just a guy who knows how to do it, so let's make love now.”

"You are exaggerating it. It's easy for a single man to divorce his wife. You should be proud of your friend's good relationship,” said Berkan.

”After Berkan started dating Seçil he began to work much more efficiently," Deniz said.

“My productivity has increased so much for mating Seçil,” said Berkan chuckling, "Milk me, my friends, as if I am a Montafon cow."
