A Day Of Freeze Drying Foods

I receive comments that I am living in fear because I build a food storage. The truth is that building a food storage brings me peace and security. If I waited until a disaster happened to make a plan, I would be doing it out of fear and scrambling to make things work. I won’t have to do that because I have planned and prepared ahead of time.

Would you rather rush to the nearest grocery store in panic the next time there is an emergency or would you rather have what you need at your home already?

I personally don’t want to be scrambling for scraps left at the grocery store or the last package of toilet paper. I also don’t want to be forced to put something on my face if I need something from the store again. Who knows what will be required to get food in the future…

That is why it is important NOW to build a food storage. Learn how to vacuum seal different foods to extend shelf life. I vacuum seal everything that goes into my freezer to create more space. I also vacuum seal fruits, cheeses, and meats in my fridge to extend their shelf life.

Learn to can do you can preserve food and have ready to eat meals on your shelf that you can eat in a pinch. Canning is a great way to help you stop relying on the grocery store because you can shift to making homemade foods like syrups, jams, jellies, stews, applesauce, and more! You won’t have to buy them from the store if you make and process them at home.

Learn how to use Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. Mylar bags are your tool to creating a long term food storage. Most everything I freeze dry is stored in Mylar bags and added to my long term food storage. If I feel like making freeze dried snacks, I will store them in a jar and vacuum seal them between uses. Yes, you can vacuum seal jars!

Now is truly the time to be building a food storage. Learn more at The Homestead Prepper's Guide To Food Storage

What a very informative post, just loved it. Like yourself, here on our farm, we prepare for emergencies. It's not that we sit around waiting for the sky to fall, but being prepared sure gives one a sense of security.

The food we prepare and put in our large deep freezer comes mostly from our garden when it comes to veggies. We blanch everything and then vacuum seal our produce. Between the deep freezer and then vacuum sealing everything, things will keep good for more than a year and taste as fresh as the day we harvested them.

Most of our meats we purchase from two different local farmers who raise their animals in an organic setting.

The one thing we don't store away is any fruits. Dehydrating fruits and then freeze-drying them is something I have been wanting to look into for quite a while. Your post has motivated me to give this method of preserving food a try.

I love the apple peeler/corer/slicer, it sure does make things a lot easier and much quicker.

Anyone who says you live in fear by learning how to be self sufficient, grow and preserve food, and live off the land have their heads up their asses. Don’t listen to them!

So glad to have you back I love hangin with ya and learn something every time.

So true 😀

A dehydrator is indeed a must have tool. I still saving money for that in the future. Kinda expensive in Indonesia.

You are doing awesome! And inspired me to do more 😊

For bread, I still looking for the gluten free flour that suitable for bread and has cheap price 😊

Your kitchen adorable indeed especially your bread! ❤️

they are pricey but make for a good investment. Plus you could rent it out to others to help recover costs.

Agreed. The results are also delicious.
