This made me think of the marginal gains philosophy from the British Sky cycling team.
They tried to find a 1% improvement in everything; equipment, aerodynamics, nutrition, sleep etc. The team perfected every detail,
All marginal gains would add up to an significant overall improvement.
Between 2012 and 2018 the team was almost unbeatable in the Tour de France winning all years except 2014 with Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, and Geraint Thomas.
