Garden Update: Planting Some Kangkong Seeds on a Gloomy Day

It's been gloomy since yesterday because the southwest monsoon (habagat) has been enhanced by the super typhoon Mawar that is on it's way to the Philippines. Hopefully, it won't have any crazy effect to any place be it in the Philippines or the neighboring countries.

This morning, it has entered PAR (Philippine Area of Responsibility). There isn't any direct effect in my place which is in central Philippines, but it's expected to have heavy rain today.

I took this photo at around 11PM and as you see, it's pretty gloomy. The sun is barely noticeable. One good thing about it though is that it feels cooler than usual. So, despite it being in the middle of the day, we decided to plant some Kangkong seeds.

Kangkong is called water spinach in English. It's very common in the Philippines and there are several recipes to enjoy it. So hopefully, it'll grow well. Let's do some preparation...

We decided to plant and keep the them in this old basin. We used this basin for some ornamental/medicinal plants before, but we transferred them somewhere else to utilize this bigger container for our water spinach.

I got some rice hulls to mix with the soil papa prepared earlier. It's mama's turn to plant this time, so papa and I just helped with the preparation... and I did some documentation, too... <3

Preparing the soil for planting is like cooking. You add some ingredient, then mix. haha

Add some water and mix again. haha

Mama made several holes to plant in the seeds in the center of the container. I believe there were around 20 seeds. We're not expecting every seed to grow, but hopefully majority of them would.

Out of the 20 cherry tomato seeds I planted last time, there are just three healthy seedlings so far, but I'm still hoping for more to grow. Not sure with the eggplant and onion though. T_T

Mama covered them with soil and we placed the label. We're done with the planting!

It's going to rain soon, so papa placed the container at the back of the house, so it won't get rained on. However, once it grow, it would love to have some rain.

That's it for now. Before I end, I want to share this cute photo I took of our orchid... the background is pretty gloomy, though. haha

See you next time friends! Happy gardening and always stay safe! (^^,)/

For a garden noob like me, this is really helpful. Not sure where to buy the rice hulls though.

Usually sa mga namaligya kaang or tanom... Pero I saw some online shops that sell it, too... 😁😁😁

Hahaha... Omg!!!
Thank you....
Meron kaming community garden... Para sa mga kapitbahay.... Usually, I guide the kids pag weekends or every other weekend... And anyone can get something there anytime... Naging hobby na Rin kasi and good exercise. So, we eat what we plant here sa house, then sa community garden, kahit sino may gusto pwede kumuha... Hihi 😅😁😁😁
