Another day, another coffee shop review. Or in my case, another month, another review, if we're being technical, since I've shown my face here about a month ago. This is due to the variety of things happening. One thing does always happen though, and that's coffee consumption, whether it's in a shop or at home, it's an unmissable part of the day. But enough about my inability to write coherent intros for my posts, and let's get to the review.
On a recent trip to Bratislava, the capitol city of Slovakia, we had a lot of coffee in different kinds of shops. Some were good, some were bad, some were anything in-between. One worth mentioning, is a coffee shop near our bnb stay that operates as a professional coffee shop by day and a cafe/club by night. As you can see, the red club lights stay in tact during the day. This gave the shop a very chaotic and non-conventional coffee shop vibe.
It also had very good reviews on google, which gave us enough reason to try it out.
As soon as we walked in, took a seat near the red neon lights, we got the menu. Looking at it, it was clear that they took coffee seriously. Besides the usual cappuccino and lattes, they also had cold brew and v60 filter coffee.
I never tried v60 filter coffee, so I ordered that. Tanja was less adventurous and went with a cappuccino, which is our default order, usually.
The v60 brew looks like any normal black coffee, but tastes very differently, in a good way. A bit smoother than Americano made from espresso, which is probably because of the pressure and temperature difference. Contact time with the coffee grounds is also longer in the paper filter.
Also a bit more empty in terms of coffee taste compared to espresso based coffee, probably because the extraction is less in this process. Overall, I enjoyed it and would order it again, or even try making it myself.
The cappuccino was a good cappuccino, nothing more to say about that one. I did like the earthy mugs without the ears, giving a classy feel to the whole situation. Well, as much as red neon lights allow for that, I guess.
As, you can see, they already had the musical area set up for later that night. And the area where we were sitting, double as a dancing area. On another day we visited this bar at night, to see if their music was as good as their coffee. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and the conclusion is that they shouldn't quit their day job just yet.
Nevertheless, after our coffee we left full of energy and headed to a local nearby shopping mall. This was a successful day full of walking, visiting monuments and the shopping trip, so the coffee did its job.
The v60 filter method is an interesting technique, among the many different ways of making coffee. Which types of coffee do you like best?
