Clearing the head
There is something about forests and mountain tops which have always had a calming and soothing impact on me.
Life is busy.
We are bombarded with information everywhere we look. Billboards. Television. Social Media. Everywhere we look, someone is trying to sell us something material. Others are trying to sell us a better version of ourselves.
If you buy this you'll be happy.
If you do this you'll be content.
If you follow this six step plan, you'll become a millionaire. Just sign up for €25 and you'll get the plan (ah so you'll become a millionaire first)
I find the best way to get away from all of this noise is to have a walk in my forest or hike up a mountain.
Either one seems to work wonders for my mental health.
Anything that was bothering me seems to melt away.
It's especially true when I visit my forest, as each visit I will bring my saw and cut back the low lying branches to make pathways like the one in the first photo below.
The forest canopy overhead means that not much life is sustained below, as the light required for photosynthesis is absent.
Each time I thin those low lying branches, more light gets through and life flourishes, which is a joy to observe each time I return.
Below you'll see some of the life that has sprung forth.
Moss, plants and greenery in abundance.
I have limited myself to these four shots, as sometimes less is more. Hopefully you enjoy the greenery, as I know many countries are arid and dry, so this greenery and growth is pleasing to the eye for people from warmer climes.
I'll leave you with this solitary pine cone.
I guess in some sense, we are all solitary pine cones, alone with our deepest thoughts.
Yes, most of us have friends, family and loved ones around us to support and listen to us, but we alone hear all our own thoughts, ideas and dreams.
We share some of ourselves, but I don't think anybody shares everything.
