Premier League Match Programme

My regular readers will know that I have done a few posts in recent months on some of my old bits and pieces from childhood. I happened upon a few old boxes you see.
Let me fill in the details in case you didn't read the other posts.

I called to my parents house a while back and they weren't in. I was about to turn on my heel and go home, but my three boys were with me and asked if they could see my old room as they like to do sometimes, and so we popped upstairs in my parents house and had a look, and we uncovered some interesting bits and pieces.

Old photos, sticker books, mementos and old equipment, including old cameras and a wireless as they were called then, we call them radios now. I got the old equipment handed down as I thought they looked really cool back in the day.

This post is about the match and racing programs I found and today it's about this match programme from 2006. My wife is a Geordie, so I've been to my fair share of Newcastle home matchesbat St. James's Park over the years since we've been together.

I've two very vivid memories from that football match. The first is that it was bitterly cold and there wasn't too much to get excited about as both teams played out a tepid 0-0 draw that was about as exciting as watching paint dry. Here's some of highlights.

Trust me, ye got the good highlights!

The other stand out memory is of Irish international Andy Reid as he jogged across to take a corner and all the Geordies started chanting and pointing singing "You Fat Bastard! You Fat Bastard!"

His little crest fallen face was very sad indeed. Football fans can be mighty cruel, that's for sure.

Here's a look through the rest of the program that day. It's always fun to look back on the old teams, many of whom are managers or coaches or pundits now.

Here's the two squads from that day for anyone interested.

As you can see there were plenty of Irish players on display, with Reid and Holland togging out for Charlton and Given, Carr and Duff all getting the nod from Glen Roeder, the Newcastle gaffer.
