Last summer my family and I traveled around the country a little. I took a lot of photos on this trip. And I want to share them.
I also wanted to show a few views of the Palace Bridge, which I captured while we were heading up the Neva River. These are not the best views. The most interesting thing with this bridge happens at night, when it is raised for the passage of ships. It looks especially beautiful in the summer, when it is very light at night in St. Petersburg.
This time we looked at the bridge from afar and swam under it. We noticed its mighty supports. The guide told us about how this bridge was built, and about its architectural and engineering features. It turns out that the mass of one counterweight used to lift one wing of the bridge is 1,400 tons. And the bridge wing itself weighs 700 tons.
Passing under the bridge we could see its internal structure.
The photo shows special stairs leading to the rooms where the bridge mechanisms are located. You can also see the windows in the bridge supports.
I strongly recommend to open the photo in a separate tab to appreciate it.
