Introduceyourself: My Introduction to Steemit!

Hello Steemit!

After lurking for several days and getting the feel of the Steemit community, I have finally decided to take the plunge into the steem pool and introduce myself. I go by Nomad, and I intend to write about my travels, photography and what it means to me to live free.

This is me:

I have been putting off the introduction post because I did not know what exactly to write and I wanted it to be meaningful. It's snowing today as you can see by the view from my front window and so it was a good time to ponder what I wanted to blog about.

snow.jpg

I have a keen interest in freedom and independence from the old rat race, and while I have not attained this goal yet I would like to blog about the experiences and challenges I meet as I take the road there.

To be financially independent does not necessarily mean driving around in a Maserati and spending all your money on overpriced stuff. In fact, that life does not appeal to me in the slightest. Living within your means and investing in life experiences over material things is the end goal for me. Let's be honest here: who has ever come to the end of his life with the regret that he has not made enough money? The richest man dies with a life abundant in fulfilled purpose, rich experiences and personal achievement. Pursue the things that matter to you, that fulfill you and that enrich your life beyond measure. This, I believe, is the road to true happiness.

So how does one attain such a life? Well, personally, I think this can be done by investing smartly, and by obtaining several independent sources of income whether that be through real estate, various online income or other similar means. The days of working at the same job for 40 years is over. The rat race has become saturated, boring and unfulfilling. Benefits are dwindling and it is arguably a certainty that a full pension won't be waiting for you when they shake your hand and give you that gold watch at the end of your working days.

In my personal life I have come to a place where my career goals have shifted. Instead of working toward that next promotion, I now work toward obtaining those streams of income. For security in later life and for finding fulfillment and purpose. You only live once!

Apart from all the dreamy philosophical stuff, I also like traveling, food and photography. Here are some of my favorite shots:

I'm happy to be a part of Steemit and hope to contribute to the community!

Welcome to Steem Block Chain. One of the things I really enjoy about Steem Block Chain is I get to see the world through the eyes of real people and their backyards. I myself do not travel a lot, a lot of the travel blogs on Steem seem to be done by the Professional travel bloggers, the ones that work with the governments, and the corporations, those I tend to completely ignore.

The ones that show real yards, real people, real places in the everyday is what I enjoy. It is not hard to distinguish the difference between a Professional Travel Blogger, and one that is a person that is proud of their home town, country or city, or were those locations that they were really glad they got to travel to and enjoy and take pictures to share with people.

I look forward to the places and locales that you will be taking us through your photojournal.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome @bashadow! I have travelled quite a bit recently, but I still spend a fair amount of time in my small town in the British Columbia interior. BC is a fantastic place with lots to see and experience, and I will be writing about that too!

You seem to enjoy photography as well, and at first glance it appears that the landscape in your photos resemble BC a lot - and then I saw you mentioned Anchorage. Is that where you're from? I visited the city in 2010! What a majestic state!

I live down on the Kenai Peninsula, just outside of Soldotna. Right now we do not have very much snow left at all, and only had our first small snow, then a second large snow fall, (meaning the driveways were plowed).

I like it down here in the country side of Alaska. I have driven through BC a few times, I prefer to drive rather than fly, but I was not much into photography during those days, now I kind of wish I had a good camera back then during those drives. I still want to revisit Kulane Lake one of these days, and take a canoe or paddle boat out on it. (most likely a paddle boat, less chance of swamping it).

Well it sounds like we had more snow than you then. In fact, we just had a big dump yesterday. I went to the Kenai Peninsula too when I visited back then. It was magical. We also went to Deadhorse and drove back to Canada via the Top of the World Highway. Truly magnificent!

Aloha! After reading your introductory post, I see that we have a similar mindset on practically everything that you posted. It's exciting to see that the very first person I met in the steemit community is so similar to me, haha. Welcome!

Cool! Looking forward to reading your thoughts on everything.

Gorgeous photographs! That raccoon is so cute :D Welcome to Steem!

Thank you!! I met this little guy during a recent trip to Celestun, Yucatan. He was such a friendly little guy and happily gave me several poses.

Great photos! Welcome to the blockchain, and we share similar ideas; hope steem is another step further on that independence!

@pardinus, thanks for the welcome. I checked out your posts and love those shots of the birds you have. I think you're right... it's nice to find like-minded people here.

Yep! And you have tons of photography contests around, good to get to know the community too; there are amazing photographers out here!

Welcome to Steem!

"I have a keen interest in freedom and independence from the old rat race"

Yes, there are many of us here haha.
Your photos are stunning too.

Thanks for the welcome! I see there are many like-minded folks here indeed. The world is changing so fast and some days it feels like I woke up too late. But as they say.. better late than never!

Top of the morning to you @wakeupkitty! Thanks for the well wishes and merry days to you too!

Welcome to the blockchain, Nomad. Following with interest.

Thanks! Fellow Canadian I see :)

I'm here thanks to @jamerussell's "presents" post - welcome to the community, Nomad! Gorgeous captures here - I'm a sucker for a good nature shot! And for future bird pictures (or as @jamerussell calls them, "ornithological photographs" 😂 ), there's a tag called "Feathered Friends" hosted by the always awesomesauce @melinda010100. Looking forward to seeing more of your contributions! Oh, and here's a welcome aboard... !tip steem

Hi there @traciyork! Thanks for the tip! Yes, I love photography and especially of wildlife and those feathered friends. I will have a look to see what it's all about!

Coolness and you're very welcome! Please feel free to shout out if you have any questions and I'd be happy to help (although I see you already have lots of awesomesauce people helping you learn the ropes)! 😊

Welcome to Steem! Those are some nice photos, hope to see some more from you :)

Thanks! Hope to post some soon again!

The photos are so beautiful! (Please keep posting !!!)

It's comforting to see the freedom of animals being registered! The raccoon is a cuteness and the flamingo tones are amazing!

Hi @barbis! Thanks for the compliment. I love photography... it's my all-time favourite hobby. So there will be lots more posts. I see you are new too! Welcome, and please remember to post that introduction post!

Welcome to Steem!

I really enjoy reading about the freedom folks as you enjoy in life. Your photos are amazing. Like others have commented, I like the raccoon sitting there like a child being posed for a picture.

Thanks @joebrochin. Photography is a passion of mine and I wish I had more time to do it!

@journeyofanomad,

First, let me say I found your awesome post via the #excellentblogpost movement by @jamerussell... Conversely, I look forward to perhaps seeing you get some curation from the wonderful @arunava and his Post Promotion Thread here

Now... welcome to this big old Steem'verse... Your introduction post was wonderfully done... photos were beautiful! I would invite you to delve further in the ways of citations etcetera, but for now... Did I mention your photos were amazing?

To be financially independent does not necessarily mean driving around in a Maserati and spending all your money on overpriced stuff.

I chuckled when I read this... and you are so right! I welcome you, once again, and look forward to seeing where your journey takes you, my friend! !tip

@wesphilbin! Wow, thank you for that warm welcome. I've been here for almost one week and already I feel at home. What a great community.

Love the photography! Welcome to Steemit!

@slobberchops, thanks again for the good mention in your post! It made my day.

great pictures @journeyofanomad, iv got to say iv been on the wheel of the mouse cage myself, spinning as many plates as i can at the expense of actually doing what i want to do. i recently went to SF4, it was a bit of an eye opener for me and feel ill be trying to live a more balanced work/life because of it. (although i do like my Merc AMG's too) :-) .... looking forward to your posts!

Honestly, it's a journey and I'm taking the road but I don't know how to get there. So I hear you. Love your predator on the loose post! I tried crickets in Mexico recently, but I don't know about that stuff on your plate... maybe if there was something good to wash it down with :|

Welcome Aboard @journeyofanomad!

Thanks @jacobpeacock! Good to be here.

Welcome to Steem. You should fit in well as many others have a similar philosophy. I'm not interested in being super wealthy, just in having enough to care for my family, with a few little luxuries. That's mainly from my job for now, but who knows what the future holds?

Have fun.

Fully agree @steevc. I like to travel, explore and take care of the fam. What's better than that?

Hi this is great! I'll be giving you a follow! I just wrote a post yesterday that you might like and it might help a little. I learn more every day on here. Check out my post steem-roller. I wish you the best on steem and welcome! :)

I read your article and it was so rich in information that I actually bookmarked it on my favorite toolbar. I'll be reading it again! Great advice.. thanks!

Welcome my friend

Much thanks :)

Welcome to Steem! You have taken the first step in achieving many goals here at the crossroads of cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and social media. Consistent engagement is needed to progress and grow your following and influence. I am currently working on a weekly post to curate new users and providing them an introduction to the ecosystem. I have selected your post as one I will feature in an upcoming post! In addition, I have published a post that provides great references to assist you in your journey. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or feedback!

Hi @newageinv! Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the inclusion in your weekly post!

Hello and welcome to steemit. Hope you enjoy here

Welcome to the Steemit community @journeyofanomad!
We sincerely hope you find everything you are looking for and have found a new home here.

I would also like to ask if you would give your permission to use this post as an example of an excellent blog post, the amount of work that went into it speaks for itself, and will be noticed.

Eight suggestions to consider:

  1. Guard your passwords carefully, and only publish with the posting key,
  2. Use your active key only for wallet transactions, keychain and steemconnect,
  3. The master password is only used to reset compromised passwords,
  4. DO NOT lose your passwords; copy and store offline,
  5. Do not publish other people's work, be it photos or written, without credit,
be sure to source all of your work, even if it is your own.
  6. An introduceyourself tag is used only once, and
  7. When you open your steemit.com, in the upper right corner of the page there are 3 bars. Click on those, and then on the "welcome", and you will get a lot of reading material that will help you.
  8. Do NOT open any links in memos or comments that you do not know who they belong to. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, so the old saying goes. There is nothing free here.

I found you because @xcountytravelers and @brittandjosie from @heyhaveyamet presented and promoted your publication to get more exposure and help you grow faster.

If you find yourself overwhelmed and need some guidance, or if you have any questions, there are informed Steemians available who can help you; you can click to go to the Steem Terminal in Discord here:

Have fun and happy Steeming!

Hello @jamerussell! Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions: they are definitely useful tips to know as I start my journey here. Yes, please use my post as you see fit and thanks for the compliment! I also joined your discord channel, although I feel a bit overwhelmed at all the info coming at me. Maybe I'll see you there.

You have great advice. More people should live within their means.

Great photos, specially the one with the sitting raccoon! Lovely!!!

Congratulations on being featured by @brittandjosie in an entry for the Pay It Forward Contest

Thanks! He was a cooperating subject :)

Welcome! We Steemians tend to like seeing more independent-minded folk here!

🎁 Hi @journeyofanomad! You have received 0.1 STEEM tip from @traciyork!

Adiwa! warm welcome my friend (: good to see freedom here.

would love to know how to invest properly, hope you can make some post about it for dummies !!

Wow, just looking at the response your intro post has got and the stunning photos you shared here, I am pretty confident you will be doing great here ;) Welcome home buddy.

Thanks! I see you got some well-documented travels too; I'm gonna have to steem through that when time permits. This place is addictive.

Hehe, it surely is :) But take it easy man, this place is also very complex and it takes months or even years to fully understand everything here :D Take it easy, step by step :) But like I said, if your persist, you will be fine. Btw, various photo contests are a great opporunity for newbies to get engaged with the community, make some contacts and also earn some extra Steem if they win :)

There are many photo contests here run by various people. One of the oldest and most popular one, for example, is the one hosted by @czechglobalhosts. It´s hosted daily, today is the North American Friday so feel free to share some nice shot from your homeland in there ;)

I will check it out! Thanks for the tip :)

That's one lovely intro and reflects precisely how society will change in the future; the more we evolve the more we seek alternative ways of living. I'm glad we live in the age of technology where working online can be possible, even though I wish we had more freedom to work anywhere in the world with anything without the need to report to any State.

By the way I found you by pure luck, so I'd like to invite you to our platform on https://travelfeed.io/, there we concentrate the biggest travelling community on the Steem blockchain. By posting on TF you'll have a far better visibility on your content and a chance to be curated by our team, increasing your rewards. (you may have noticed the #travelfeed on the popular tags)

If you feel like so your are also invited to our Discord channel, where the travelling community reunites to chat, also we'll be able to guide you through the platform.
