That was a great assessment and I’m glad that steem helped you believe in the power of building consensus. I’ve experience groups making decisions through consensus building before but I’ve never seen it done among strangers across the world

The whole process of trying to find your voice on this platform is interesting too, we have to adapt to the environment so even a celebrity may not be as successful as they hope just doing what they do elsewhere. It’s a complicated but good place. I’ve also just started recommending it again after 2 years of being unsure

I think this is an underrated aspect of Steem. I've heard all kinds of blockchains promise this is what will be done. Steem has already done this in practice and allows people to communicate together on the same platform. Maybe we need a few more years, especially with Steem.dao and soon to be SMTs and communities, but so far I haven't seen any critical issues with the model and it has faced a few challenges.

I also think a celebrity could have a hard time, however, they could also reach out to someone with experience. There are a few community managers and other talented people here more than capable of advising or helping out a celebrity. First, we need to get more readers. The content is alright.

Glad you think so too. I was actually quite surprised that there were no large issues with the last hard fork given its complexity. This actually has me worried about the proposed fork to reduce power-down time. SPS is still relatively new and nowhere near 50% of the Steem power is voting on any of the proposals yet. It makes the election turn out in advanced democracies seem like a distant dream.

410,000MVests total
75000~90000MVests for the top 20 witnesses (18~22%)
35000~50000MVests for the top (funded) proposals (9~12%)

Even if we add both the aye and nay together we still only get 70000MVests (17%)

I know some of the largest stakeholders don't vote so even if we remove the top 4 accounts (I think Freedom votes witnesses), We still have 280000MVests or still less than 1/3 of accounts voting.
We also have the large majority of Steem already locked up in Steem power (65%) which means the majority of people are silent.

I'm not sure if Steem suffers from a liquidity problem. In anycase, this is turning into its own post...
