What a City
For any Cockneys or Londoners among us here on Hive, know this. You are a lucky bunch, chiefly because the wonderful Arsenal football club plays in the North side of your city, but also because of the many notable attractions you have on your doorstep.
On a trip back in August 2023, on a solo mission for a good friend's wedding in Kensington, I found myself at a loose end the day after as I waited around for my evening flight home to Ireland. I knew that there were lots of museums in South Kensington and I was spoilt for choice as you'll see below.
A Natural Beauty
As I was saying South Kensington boasts an array of quality museums, including the Science museum, the Victoria and Albert museum, the Royal college of music and the world famous Natural History museum.
Very impressive
My kids used to love it when we brought them to the Irish Natural history museum and National gallery back in the days when we lived near Dublin, but honestly I can't wait to take them to London some day to see their Natural history museum.
Honestly having seen both now, our Irish one is like something from Father Ted. It's like comparing Six Flags or Alton Towers with Father Ted's Funland. For those not familiar with Father Ted, this is Funland 🤣🤣
I don't mean to be disrespectful to the Irish Natural History museum, but the British one is just leagues ahead of it as I'll demonstrate with some photos.
The above was what awaited when I first went in, my boys would be bowled over by this and they love dinosaurs, so this would be right up their street.
There is even a life like robot that moves like a dinosaur, again my kids would love this.
Dinosaurs aren't your thing? You prefer Volcanoes, fossils and meteorites, chill the chops. They have all of that covered too and so much more!
And there is just a much more to discover. I only had a couple of hours and I hardly scratched the surface. It really is a remarkable place that I would highly recommend people to visit in London.
Save the best till last
I said I'd save the best to last and this place was really the highlight for me as seen it before on different David Attenborough documentaries.
I mean who doesn't like a bit of David Attenborough for a start, but having seen him talk passionately while standing in this space, it felt pretty cool to be standing there myself looking at some of the wonders of the world.
The space in this section of the museum truly needs to be seen to be appreciated and my photos certainly don't do it just. Around every corner and under every arch there is more and more and more to discover. It is truly remarkable.
So if you do ever make it to London, be sure to catch up Underground to South Kensington and check out the Natural History Museum. Tell them @ablaze sent you!!
