Local Football
Our local team Galway United had their first home game of the season on Friday night at Terryland Park. There are 18 home games a season and I usually bring my three sons to around half of them. It's a good day out and the boys always have a great time. Here we are on Friday night before the match with the Galway United mascot.
Friday night football is always good, but it's even batter when you land four free tickets for your family, whichbis exactly what I did.
There was a great crowd in for the match on Friday, capacity is 5,000 and they had 4,300 there on Friday night.
There opponents on the night were St. Pat's who finished fourth last season. They were the form team at the end of last season beating every team they faced.
The Ultras were in full voice over in their usual spot ahead of kickoff and the atmosphere was electric throughout.
This is how the teams lined out, Galway deploying a 3-5-2 and St. Pat's opting for a more attack minded 4-3-3.
Galway got off to a shaky start with St. Pats creating some early chances, but then they quickly grew into the game and got their just reward in the eighteenth minute when Hickey found the back of the net. This helped them grow in confidence and seven minutes later they were 2-0 on front. Esua delivered an expert cross and Hickey was on hand to give the home team a two goal cushion.
It was a margin they could only maintain for five minutes however, with Keena bagging a great goal for St. Pat's on the half hour.
The game ebbed and flowed for the final hour, with Galway United having to defend resolutely at times, but they managed to keep a quality St. Pats team at bay and they'll be delighted to have come away with a hard fought victory, which keeps them nearer the top of the table.
Thanks as always for stopping by everyone
Peace Out
