Hi Reader.
Permit the introduction of the Big Whale Swim Club. We'll try to keep this post brief and concise as much as possible. It's so nice to be finally a member of one of the most talked about sites on the internet.
The Big Whale Swim Club was created in 2018 due to the alarming rates of lives lost through drowning in Africa entirely because the low level of awareness on drowning, aquatic safety and first aid. In 2012 alone, a total of over 10,000 lives were lost to drowning in floods in the Niger Delta area of Nigeria. 90% of these victims where children and teenagers. In 2019, over 2000 lives were lost due to drowning in aquatic bodies across Nigeria.
It's ironical that there are so many coastal areas in West Africa but we have one of the highest numbers of mortality via drowning. Most people are lackadaisical about learning how to swim because they believe they probably would not need it in life. The government also pays very little attention to swimming and aquatic safety. Although, there's been a tremendous decrease in the rate of drowning in Ghana and Cameroon due to some policies that encourage learning how to swim and other aspects of aquatic safety.
We currently have partnered with four swim schools that would in short time join us here on this platform. These are the Climax Swim School( Nigeria), Dolphin Swim School(Nigeria), Smart Swim School( Cameroon) and Aqua Safety Swim School( Ghana). The head coaches of the mentioned swim schools were once competitive swimmers who represented their respective countries in both national and international competition. Equipping the next generation with skills that would protect them against drowning and how to save lives is our little way of giving back to the community. We are passionate about what we do and this is what has kept us moving.
Our posts here will be mostly about swimming, aquatic safety , information on swim meets and events, tips to help improve your Swimming and fitness in general. So please watch out for those.
Much Thanks goes to @abdex9 for helping create our account and providing us with important information on how this amazing platform works. Although there's still a bountiful amount of things to be learnt from the community and it's members. We look forward to having a great time here while having an impact on lives in Africa and the world at large.
