Some of the memories/habits that characterize your person or make you whole from time to time happen to be those formed during you childhood. And it is proven that music is a strong tool in driving down memory lane. Its reflexes are just as sharp as your taste buds.
Over the decades after Independence, my beautiful country Nigeria strayed down a road of division, greed and corruption. At some point the military took over but soon became a problem themselves as free press was surpressed and information maneuvered and destroyed. In this trying times, the soul of my people as well as their voice was wielded into the musical display of the Afrobeat legend; Femi Anikulapo Kuti.
When I think of home, my mind goes back to my childhood days when I still was a regular football player and actively engaged in sports. Those days, my neighbour always played his songs as entertainment and my o my, it was something.
Whenever there is a protest also, Fela's vibrant voice is always heard. He in some way embodies the Nations' art.
You would also notice that there is a wee Eagle on his shoulder. Well I chipped it off the Coat of Arms. The Eagle represents strength and resilience and I must tell you my people are ever willing to work for that which is theirs.
When I think of Home, I think of Fela.
