For sure, and the digital and online market is just as lucrative. Think about doing consultation over online calls and getting paid in HBD! Haha. Jokes aside, I want to try and get some local South African feedback to publish in journals, as there is nothing done in this area. If I get good results, I can begin the practice, as people will make it worthwhile. And like flexible payment schemes, someone only pays as much as they can, while others who can afford more can pay for others who cannot pay. Will see if there is a local market for this kind of therapy/counselling. Because the job front doesn't seem to open up much and time is valuable, I am going to start this in the next couple of months.
Yeah, you could become the male version of Oprah and will go viral on the internet !LOLZ
I think that it could work, and let's hope that you will be able to establish a market. Start small with a pilot, and if successful, then the sky is the limit. Looking forward to your progress.
For sure, and I guess the first couple of people might not go as planned, as I am totally new in the field. Might help to "shadow" someone who has been longer in the field (there is someone in Cape Town area) but their work is radically different to mine, so their approach will not be similar to mine. And what I want to achieve with my practice will be different as well. So many differences! Will do something about this situation in the coming months, as I am busy writing a book chapter on philosophy as a way of life, very applicable to the practice.
Ah! Shadowing someone in the field sounds like a great idea, as then you can learn the basics and it will also count as valuable experience. You don't have to worry about the differences, as eventually you can build your own practice on the foundation of the basics. Or in fact, you can lay a new foundation.
Only a chapter of a book?
For sure. I need to stop being so stubborn sometimes! Maybe I will give it a go. Also had the opportunity to do a short course with some of the experts in the field, but it was well above R10k and I need to focus on the PhD now.
Yes, some editors from overseas (big names in the field) contacted me to write a chapter! The book consists of various authors (again, big names in the field) writing a chapter each into an edited volume. Haha, I am hammering on the "big names in the field" because I have incredible imposter syndrome.
Nope, I don't blame you, as 10k for a short course is robbery. Well that you rather focus on the PhD.
Score yourself with the big names, and hope that one, or two will see the value that you offer. Always good to have imposter syndrome. !LOLZ
I hope that it will go that way! It is also possible for it to go the other way round as well, to make a complete buffoon of yourself on international stage! But I will then blame it on the language barrier! Jokes aside, you are right, it is good to have some anxiety, it means that what you are busy with carries some weight.
We also hope that it will go that way, and be prepared for it to go the other way as well.
You are right about the anxiety factor but your talents will help you through.
Thank you so much. Throw them into the deep water as they say. The book chapter is almost done now, so luckily ahead of schedule in some respects (if there are no bumps in the future, and we know there is always some bump in the road haha!).
