We often take walking for granted, but it’s a simple yet effective way to take a break and breathe. Given the hot temperatures in my country, the afternoon is my ideal time to go out for a walk—especially while watching the sunset, which is my favorite.
After discovering Cafe Anahaw, we decided to visit the town’s boardwalk—a perfect spot for morning and afternoon walks, jogging, sightseeing, relaxing, and even biking.
The boardwalk offers a calming view of the sea and the surrounding islands. Every time I gaze at my town from a distance, it brings back memories of my high school days. I didn’t go out with my classmates often because I had responsibilities at home from a young age. But whenever I needed a break from life’s burdens, I would sneak out with my friends—without my mom’s permission! 😅
I remember going on island-hopping adventures and motorbike joyrides to different villages just to attend fiestas where my classmates lived. At least I have some fun memories from my younger years.
In the afternoons, students love visiting the boardwalk. Some come to chat, some to jog, others to relax, and kids are there just to play.
Originally, this boardwalk was built to protect the town from storm surges. During typhoon Yolanda, the coastal villages were devastated, and many lives were lost. Over time, the boardwalk became more than just a protective structure. It became a place where people could unwind and enjoy the view anytime.
My hometown, Basey, and my province, Samar, have a lot of natural features like caves, waterfalls, beaches, resorts, and other tourist spots. The only downside of visiting these places is the inconvenient transportation and high expenses. Having a car would make traveling easier and more affordable, but ours has been stuck since my father’s passing. We also have two motorcycles, but I don’t know how to drive, lol. My two siblings do, but they’re busy with school, so I don’t want to bother them. But I truly want to travel around my province someday.
We often get so caught up in work, pursuing goals and dreams, and doing side jobs that we forget to slow down. But taking even a short walk every day can do wonders for our well-being. It's a simple habit we shouldn’t ignore.
Thanks for your time.
