Spinning an orb is one of the absolute staples of light painting and I've probably done more than my fair share of them as I got a bit obsessed with coming up with new variations when I first started out light painting!
Although I didn't invent the basic technique for these, which existed before I even picked up a camera, I think I can claim credit for popularising it a bit and for this particular variation which is a complete ball-ache to get right!
Drawn by hand using a modified led umbrella and a finger light for the inner orb. The tricky part is trying to leave a sensibly shaped hole when you can't see what you're doing!
All shot in one photographic exposure. For more of this kind of thing, check out the visual wonderland which is @lightpaintershub
