Garden Updates: It's Been a While... (Tomatoes and Bell Peppers) + Water Spinach Flower

in Agricultural Mindset10 months ago

It's been a while since I did a garden update. After we harvested the last set of bitter gourd, eggplant, bell pepper and okra, we haven't really planted new stuff yet. We have been a bit busy that we didn't have much time for the garden. However, we don't want to keep the vegetable garden empty for a long time, so we decided to plant something that's easier to take care of... at least for now. I want to be more active in gardening again some time this year.

A couple weeks ago, we spread some dried tomato seeds that we took from the tomato we used in the kitchen. They have sprouted since then and now they're seedlings. We still need to transfer this batch to other pots, but papa did transfer some of them already, like the ones below.

It's interesting how we have more tomato seedlings this time than in the past. Usually just 3-4 would survive. Hopefully, there would be more this time around.

Aside from the tomatoes, we also have around five to six pots of bell pepper. It's interesting how my mama loves adding bell pepper to some of her dishes, but she and papa don't eat them. I like bell peppers, though... especially when they're still a bit crunchy.

Once things have settled down and we'd have more time for gardening again, I'd like to plant a bunch of lettuce just like before. It would be awesome to add to my sandwich or as a wrap whenever we have a barbecue party at home.

Our potted water spinach have been surviving for more than a year now, but it's my first time seeing it grow flowers. It looks lovely! I haven't tried adding its flower to some dishes but I've read that they're actually edible.

I honestly didn't know that they can grow flowers in the first place. haha Plants are indeed amazing!

Speaking of spinach, our new set of malabar spinach has started to crawl as well. We had to raise the makeshift pots higher because our neighbor's cat destroyed the previous set. This way, they can't easily do anything to it.

That's it for now. Thanks for reading and see you around! :)
