Talking About It Doesn't Get It Done

in #busy6 years ago (edited)

Oh no, not another post about Dlive and Pewdiepie:

There have been too many posts to count regarding Dlive and Pewdiepie. If you somehow managed to miss the story, DLive a former Steem app, managed to snag the top Youtuber to make exclusive live streams on their platform. The move has generated a lot of attention.

image.png

I'm just going to say, we have talked about knowing Youtube is losing it's users, either by demonetizing them or banning them. We have said we should go after those users.

We didn't do it.

Dlive did.

I hear their site is looking good too.

Yeah, I feel a little envious.

Which brings me to another thought. A plan like going after large content creators and giving them rewards to hand out, so that they bring their followers, is a great promotion. However, it also has to be backed up with curation and platforms that work.

Before it can happen, It takes coordination and organization to plan, fund, and execute this type of promotion.

We have a lot of people who seem to confuse organized efforts with decentralization.

I'm convinced we can have people who are interested in promotional activities gather together for planning and funding projects without risk of centralization. In fact, I would say that is exactly what I hope the future foundation being planned by SteemAlliance will do.

It's hard for me to see a path for success if we do not organize and fund promotional activities.

What are your thoughts around organized projects with specific goals and outcomes? How would you suggest they get funded?

Let's talk about it!

@whatsup,
When STEEM up they come, when STEEM down they left! So peg SBD to $10 and see the miracle happen!

Cheers~

I infiltrated DLive last night(made an account). I am jealous, and salty and frustrated to be perfectly honest. The site is beautiful. The signup was easy. I had to make a Dlive account as well as a Lino wallet, and I did both in minutes and they have instructions that are easy to understand and easily accessible.

I think my biggest takeaway's from my experience there were

  1. There is no focus on crypto there. The fact that it's a cryptocurrency is a secondary afterthought. They are offering a service that is competitive with the current leader in that space. Blockchain and crypto enable that but, the end user doesn't necessarily need to know that. In their case they give the end user as little information about crypto and blockchain as possible as they have the entire flow from earning "Lino Points" to cashing out, worked out and integrated into one fluid experience.
  2. Decentralization is a strength for security and freedom, but it's a disadvantage for organization, cohesive vision, and precise execution. We seriously need like a think tank community to just think about and come up with proposed solutions for these issues. We're blazing trails and this is all an experiment. We need to adapt or die.
  3. I think a part of our evolution will be steering away from the faucet model. There should be more dapps that are their own thing and there should be a strong push to have an end to end user experience that is self contained in each dapp, from account creation to selling. We need to evolve from go to this site to learn about Steem, go to this site to make an account, go to this site to swap steem for something else etc.

I should probably just create my own post...

Agree with you. I just wonder how is with the wallet security on Dlive.

Might as well post it now! :) Good points.

I covered this recently dissecting pyramids. Steem itself is decentralized, any company utilizing it for their business make that growth from it a form of centralization. If there is to be a growth off of Steem, there will be many centralized pyramids coming from it. But Steem is always the base allowing it, not the centralization or pyramid itself.

I believe (and will be expounding on more soon) that smart business is to stop setting up a circle focusing within Steem and demonstrate and create apps that enhance preexisting businesses that already are solvent in their cash flow and seek to either use Steem to become more efficient in keeping more of their cash flow, or to increase the cash flow.

There is no good reason this hasn't happened yet, other than a breakdown in skill sets. Programmers aren't marketing machines, or business people for the most part. Nor those others have programming skills typically.

But we have enough proof that focusing inward within one of the preexisting pyramid structures like Steemit is not the way forward.

Totally agree!

We had big youtubers here already such as Hodgetwins, Pete, Max K, Grant Cardone, Robert K and all the crypto influencers on steem. They all left as they don’t get upvotes as all the whales rather just sell there votes with bitbots. Who’s to blame, the community. Give me that drama token 😂

Posted using Partiko iOS

Yes, I can't argue a bit. Our "Investors"... Who think investment means... taking the most out, are not into putting effort in.

😂😂😂😂😂

Posted using Partiko iOS

They don't understand that if you want to be an influencer on steem you need to buy some steem first. These guys are loaded and I don't have any respect for them. Same with RT and Wearechange.

They don't understand that if you want to be an influencer on steem you need to buy some steem first.

Maybe that's not their problem, it's our problem.

Expecting change from potential users instead of making it more accessible for them if a recipe for failure.

That makes sense. I don’t think they realized that when first coming into the platform.

Posted using Partiko iOS

Meh, they just salty cause they arent good at kissing whale ass as some of us here. haha
And on Slowwalker point....
Why would they have to buy Steem? Are you saying that only those that buy Steem are bringing in value? Are you more valuable the more Steem you have?
Nah. Thats the attitude that got us into the mess we are in.

It may be a great option but it will still be much short in the community aspect as that is something achieved slowly. The attention will also be brought to all decentralized platforms providing the same options for its content creators of censorship resistance and community based votes to entangled more of them.

I read in one of the posts that Dlive got 100K new users next or even the same day.
I'm almost sure that steem onboarding is just not ready yet and with the system in place with all these keys I'm not sure if it ever will be.
Now you know why there is no promotion from stinc.
I would be very happy if I'm wrong.

yeah, me too.

I was wondering what the fuss was about. I need a whiskey now.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Baha!! Excellent!!

That's funny, I love that bot, unless I say something mean.

Cheers.

I wonder how much Pewdiepie got from dlive/lino?
Celeb sponserships go a long way as well with the other factors by others.
Maybe the DAO and the foundation can make it happen? Who knows...

I'm sure there was a decent payment involved.

Ive seen it since 2018.

They got a world class team.

That isnt brown nosing.... Thats a fact.

Pew going to DLive is the biggest mainstream thing to happen to crypto ..... Ever.

Change my mind ;)

Seriously though hmu if you wanna chat about it. Im a verified partner there.

Also....for what its worth I tried to keep content creators to consider staying on Steem.

It didnt work, know why? Tribalism on Steem and downvotes from whales.

Just sayin.

I agree with the tribalism, flagging people they don't agree with. Not to forget onboarding wasn't easy.

To be honest I enjoyed the instant free registration of account. Trybe on EOS sucks, but their registration is easy and DLive too. STEEM on onboarding suffer the problem of not being free and easy. Either you buy an account for instant or wait for an a free one which sometimes are not available.

How about another layer of just the typical social web and they can have the STEEM wallet and account integrated later just like on DLive and Trybe?

Posted using Partiko Android

Agree. People who want to try Steem and have to wait 2+ weeks or even worse never get back the SMS on their phone to complete the registration is very common. This is a bit worrying...

Regardless of the reasons, they got it done and we didn't.

Fact.

Im feeling fired up.... Might make a video responding to this salt showing up all over (not by you)

Fired up is good! Ain't nutting wrong with a good kick in the pants... We all know this ecosystem has issues, like major issues.. Something like this that highlights and exposes our weaknesses can be a good thing. Where is that managing director lol? With the exception of an appearance on a discord show I hadn't heard a peep from her. And I know steem isn't stinc i just have to wonder what the few salary steemians are doing?

Posted using Partiko Android

Yep

Posted using Partiko Android

Yo! Talk to your buddy dRama. Maybe it gives you a hug. Looks real cuddly ;)

Let's see if that this stunt sticks. So far it's just talk.
Going after banned YouTubers and Facebookers looks a little short sighted. You may not like these platforms but you have to be a giant turd in order to get banned there usually. Is that the kind of authors that present Steem in a good light?

Posted using Partiko Android

That's absolutely not true. They have been shutting down channels left and right for any number of reasons.

Also my Dad creates video for websites and they have a huge problem on that side too, because they insist on ending on "Recommended" videos, which no one wants on their website.

I just dont want to end up in a wingnut cesspool of extremists... that's my worry here

Posted using Partiko Android

Pewdiepie is not an extremist of any kind...he is controversially jokey guy...sometimes the jokes don't work !!

I never said pewdiepie is ;)

Question: can we afford top-notch influencers? Maybe we can but I would rather have the resources of the blockchain spread amongst more active users. What I see most times is that we are in a rush to nowhere. We are not ready for the type of attention we seek which will eventually come even if we are not conscious about it. These people who are being banned will need alternatives, we are creating that and most of what we are creating isn't ready for mass consumption. I don't care about Pewdie..whatever
I don't even think dlive can keep him on their payroll for long, maybe that's not the plan either. I still consider this a win in some way for us. Other influencers/ YouTubers will most definitely be in search of other alternatives asides YouTube and dtube is an alternative. And we might not have to pay excessive fees to keep them because they will willingly land at our doorsteps if we promote our blockchain better.

Posted using Partiko Android

Can we afford it? I don't think we will afford it.

We don't have to go for the absolute top.

I am losing patience with waiting for our stuff to be ready. :)

i am a bit lost, is lino on exchanges? can you trade it? it looks like they are doing a good job in marketing but not so great in crypto part? or am just a noob that i am?

Posted using Partiko Android

It's not on exchanges. They have testnet tokens, but they sell and let you cash out testnet tokens directly through the site, with PayPal and Bitcoin.

thanks for the info

Posted using Partiko Android

Lino is their blockchain's name. It is my understanding it only has the one app.

I have no idea where it trades, I never hear about it except when dlive comes up.

that is also what i managed to find out so i am a bit confused. thanks

Posted using Partiko Android

Well, we can speed up the process by having more business-minded teams behind each dapp. Tech guys are great but not many of them understand the business well enough to build a sellable service. Some don't even care about it.

Posted using Partiko Android

It's like lord of the flies in here 😂

Posted using Partiko Android

@whatsup Get dRama sponsored by Gordon Ramsey.

lol

I agree huge failure of steem not to get him and others who've woken uo to the arrogance of centralized sns.

I do hope we don't end up getting bottom of the barrel extremists either which is only bad news. I want the moderate trouble makes and those fed up with signing away their rights.

Even if you think he has an army of 9 years old supporters, think of all the good it would do if they are buying steem just to tip him, never mind if he promotes on chain apps to play. Although I dont see any games with enough action yet to excite him or his fans much, it could come soon. Havig big shots on chain would encourage developers, too.

We still have Doug Polk and Trevon James don't we? I mean... aren't those big enough names for you????

posted using the heavy sarcasm font

Hmmm DLive have done well for themselves haven’t they? And their platform is very polished.

I wonder how decentralised they really are though?

It would be nice to see a group get as organised as they are to bring some decent names to Steemit.

And maybe we should care more about the who we bring here as well.

I am just a poor minnow starting up here. All pleb like me can is to scream to those 🐋 with millions of disposable $$$ to onboard any famous celebrity because history teaches that celebrities will always attract millions of attention.

Posted using Partiko Android

I know some celebrities, I was on Celebrities Uncensored episode 22 I got attacked by jealous mob of crazy people leaving the Hyatt with Paris & Nicole! LOL I can't even find that episode anywhere! good thing! just going out we got popparazzid every time!! I remember watching the Trailer of Simple Life with Paris and Nicole, and telling them how stupid it was! They were not used to criticism, but I thank different! I have tons of old video on my mini discs I have been meaning to get to, maybe if I post it here, which I will, it surely will get their attention! Now is probably a good time, I will get to post some here soon, I still have to order a dvd player that is not slot loading so can look at my minidvs ! I'm friends with I have drunk beers with Shannen Doherty, at Cisco's club The Roxy, I only bring her up cause I just heard on the radio it was her birthday today, Happy Birthday! LOL I am good friends with Cisco Adler, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Muska, Joser, Alex Orbnison,Jack Osbourne, Michael Holt, Kimberely Stuart, Pamela Anderson, I used to live in the colony in Malibu after Cisco Kicked me out for wearing Rod's Stage Jacket lol. I unfriended most of them when I left FB! LOL I sent them a few messages years back tho, told them about Bitcoin, all they did was make some scam coins of their own I think! lol So yo old celebrity friends of mine, sign up on Steemit! I am out of touch with them now, so heres their Official invitations, come Join steemit and beat PewtiePie! We'll wait, now they can find me, they will show up some day!

I'm half a world away. All I can do right now is a psychedelic shamanic ritual sending all the luck to you brother. May the power above bless us all with Fame and Fortune. Amen.

Posted using Partiko Android

Celebrities go where their fans are unless they are paid.

PewDiePie literally have an army of 9 year olds, so need to onboard a lot of 9 year olds.

Posted using Partiko Android

The answer to mainstream adoption of crypto and decentralization has been under our noses this whole time, we gotta get the 9 year olds

In 10 years, those 9 years old will be 19. So think of the long run.

Posted using Partiko Android

Yeah I have to dump my bags somehow. We all know crypto is a ponzi

I am loving the bears and enjoying the winters.

Oh please no... :)

Call of Duty on steem to get them too! :P

that sounds terrible to me!

Recently RT joined here, I'm not fan of them, and although I like to think we do something alternative here, we could benefit a lot from a possible adoption of other media. I think good things can happen.

Russia today and natural news signed on. Still trying to get my pekiti tirsia Kali friend to post...

Hang on steemit is just going to go places.

Posted using Partiko Android

STEEM/STINC did it to itself , Dlive pulled a D-bag move but they followed up proper marketing and working product.

Like it or not, DLive delivered a great product. DTubes interface is abysmal (but i heard they have a new patch coming out soon) and our sign up process sucks. I dont want flocks of people coming to steem yet because all that will do is turn them all off unless they are really into crypto. The average person sees all the bullshit that we try to ignore and moves on to something else. If more people knew about this place, it may feel more embarrassing to tell people you post here as almost everything is inferior to our centralized counterparts. Fact of the matter is, the majority of us that stick around are a bunch of socially awkward weirdos that dont care for much content other than content about our blockchain.

I see hope in dapps like Partiko. They seem to be one of the only dapps (besides steem monsters) that actually knows how to incentivize users to sign up and earn points.

I can act like im pissed and say “fuck DLive” but the truth is their site shits on anything this blockchain has right now, centralized or not. If our best feature is that “were decentralized” then this place is going downhill. Nobody except wackjobs/conspiracy therorists will gravitate here if we dont have a product that is enjoyable and easy to use.

/thread

[ seriously tho, this post is 100% accurate. Vimm has not advanced one bit, visually at least, since DLive left. DTube hasn't etiher, due to investment troubles I guess. Steem needs faster development, better development, and a cohesive push. ]

I'm saying that's the side we should look at. It's a waste of time to blame them.

We have to decide if there is something we should be doing better.

I was ringing the alarm that steem was losing out big time when Dlive left. Dlive was by far the best dapp on the blockchain in my opinion. People raged at me, then steem lost 70% of its value.

It would be great if steem had a dapp that was even remotely competitive.

I second your opinion.

I strongly believe that the winning proposal will make very prosperous steps towards marketing and working as a collective to make sure good ideas get implemented.

Posted using Partiko Android

...The Dtube logo though. Completely eclipsed the Pewdiepie thing. My mind is blown...

A plan like going after large content creators and giving them rewards to hand out, so that they bring their followers, is a great promotion.

And how are you going to onboard them?

One would offer them, monetary gains, promotion and mutual advertising... Generally speaking.

I meant their followers..
No, i mean how would you get them an account.
I can guarantee you that no one would wait 2 weeks for a free one, they literally cant do anything with, nor would they pay 2 dollars to get one with 15 SP.
If its true that Dlive got 100k new users the day after the pewdiepie announcement, had that been Steem/Dtube in that situation, i dont think Steem (or any related App) would have gotten 1/50th of that number if Pewdiepie picked STEEM.

I dont think he would even go for STEEM:

Are you telling me theres a paywall for commenting on your platform. Fuck off to Finland!

There is a solution to this, a simple one, but unfortunately ive never heard it discussed.

I feel like they should be funded through deligations. if they are not holding up their end of the deal it's easy to remove ur deligation. It holds them accountable in a way.

Side note I'm glad for dlive. It honestly shows a lack here on steem and where we as a community could do better. I'd be very curious to learn more about why they left steem and moved to other places. It could be a very good learning opportunity

Steemit is starting to feel 'old', somehow.

Like a test case for better systems to come...(imho)

Have you considered focusing your energy on making it feel new again? Was your allegiance to Steemit or Steem? I already know, but curious if you do.

Steem is ready for the creative energy of those with vision. You hold your abilities in high esteem. Why not apply them towards building something that feels new and exciting on Steem?

Was your allegiance to Steemit or Steem?

Are you drunk? lol
Allegiance?
I stopped wanting to be in someone else's gang, decades ago.

...it's a flawed system. You know that. (or maybe you don't).

When proof of stake dictates policy, you have an oligarchical system, not a meritocracy.
The two don't gel long term.
It's predatory in its nature. It can be no other way. This is basic human psychology of acquiring resources, and those with stake.
(wearing the mask of 'community').

I'm not here to 'make it feel new again'.
I never was.

'Community' is a facade in this structure - just to sell to the naive.
(I did include myself in that group, btw).

I don't hold my abilities in writing in high esteem - far from it.

I DO have confidence in my abilities to make more success writing off steem, than on.
I don't mind failing, but I do mind not trying.

Are you drunk? lol

No. I was blessed years ago to no longer need that crutch.

I stopped wanting to be in someone else's gang, decades ago.

That doesn't feel right, due to the fact that you have been arguing for quite some time now over the unfairness of Steemit. Your passion sasy you want something from this or you would have just logged out some time back and kicked the dust of this place from your feet.

I have watched you for some time argue with an energy that astounds me. While I have not agreed with some of your positions, and believe your passion at time blinds you I appreciate the care you take to put a humorous spin most of the time.

I know we see Steem differently. The Steem I see is only controlled by Steemit because of a breakdown between programmers, business people and already existing businesses that could benefit. If (I know it might not be meant to be, but i believe it will) just one or two of the right size companies decided to adopt Steem into their business structure, none of the original stakeholders could override them if they decided to purchase a good little chunk sitting at the exchanges. As time goes by, the people that anger you here with the way they use their stake will lose their hold over this, including Ned.

I think you are pretty sharp overall. Why not give them the ultimate F you (the ones who anger you) and help figure out a way to bring in those who will make their power obsolete?

As far as community, it is here right now. Whatsup invited all who are in or want to be in her community when she hit post, and here we are :)

Ouch brutally honest.. Are we MySpace?

Dunno matey...just the feeling I'm getting..

I do feel like @ned would end up like Myspace Tom if he don't go BRUTAL!

People compare for this move but Steem will get better overtime.

It was a Steem App. They created their own blockchain.
