Mushrooms are a severely underrated vegetable. They bring a meatiness and deep, rich flavor to all the dishes they are added and can be enjoyed as a side or stand alone and be the hero of a dish.
This recipe features the mushroom as a scrumptious side and even swayed our carnivorous friends who are not usually big on their veggies during a braai!
Ingredients
- Half a cup olive oil
- Half a cup of Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tablespoons crushed garlic
- 1 Teaspoon paprika
- Splash of balsamic vinegar
- 250g White button mushrooms
- Salt and ground black pepper to season
Instructions
In a large bowl, mix together the olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic, paprika and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Add the mushrooms to the mixture and toss well to coat them evenly. Do this ahead of time and let it marinade, while you prepare the rest of the meal. Toss every now and then, so that all of the mushrooms are properly coated in the marinade. The mushrooms will brown when all of the tantalizing flavors have absorbed.
Skewer the mushrooms, leaving enough space on one side to easily be able to handle and turn while braaing.
Add the skewers to the braai on a medium heat until the texture is soft enough to enjoy, but still with a little bit of chewiness to eat. This is easy enough to test, as we usually can’t keep our hands off of these mouthwatering mushrooms, even while still on the coals!
And voila! Wholesome, flavorsome and just absolutely delicious!
